A brief portrait of myself
Welcome to the Funereal Museum.
I look like this and I also read poetry.
I’m 19, male, I live in England and I’m studying English and Art History in a medieval paradise. Romanticism, the Pre-Raphaelites, the Gothic, medievalism, doppelgängers, ghosts, candles, magic, witchcraft, supernaturalism, folklore and mythology, the Old Religion, dark woods and sunlit woods, veiled faces, coffins, the Renaissance, moonlight, crows, mirrors, graveyards, flowers, skulls, old castles, cathedrals, bookshops and death all fascinate me. Writing is my greatest joy. I feel more awake at night.
Music
Florence + The Machine, Fever Ray, The Knife, The xx, Cocteau Twins, Fleet Foxes, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Cure, Joy Division, Tropic of Cancer, Wild Nothing, Minks, Sibylle Baier, Vashti Bunyan, My Bloody Valentine, Amen Dunes, Coasting, Aphex Twin, and long doses of medieval music.
Literature
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, Gothic literature, the tales of Poe, the poetry of Keats, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Mrs Dalloway, Orlando, Maurice, Wuthering Heights, The Wasp Factory, Rebecca, The Tempest, The Book of Lost Things, the ghost stories of M.R. James, The Bloody Chamber, and more that I can’t think of right now.
Films
Alice in Wonderland (1966), Picnic at Hanging Rock, Valerie and Her Week of Wonders, the films of Jan Švankmajer, Terry Gilliam, Andrei Tarkovsky and David Lynch, Nosferatu (Herzog version), The Innocents, Bright Star, Antichrist, A Zed and Two Noughts, The Tree of Life, The Double Life of Veronique, Marie Antoinette, The Fountain, and that’s all I can think of at the moment.
Artists
The Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, Simeon Solomon, Julia Margaret Cameron, Caravaggio, Leonardo, Henry Fuseli, Caspar David Friedrich, Francisco Goya, Vermeer, Hieronymus Bosch, Edvard Munch, Pieter Bruegel the Elder, Sandro Botticelli, William Blake, and the anonymous painters and craftsmen of the Middle Ages.
I am quite prone to solitude, introspection, shifting changes of mood and occasional melancholia. In real life, I’m actually quite a cheery person. Well, I’m human after all.
To satisfy the curious, I’ll say that I prefer the company of men.
Text posts and answers to questions will probably be very wordy and long-winded, only because I voice thoughts that I very rarely get to talk to anyone about.
One of the aims of the aims of this blog is to inform, in that I like to do a bit more than just passively post pretty pictures: if I post a detail of a painting, I’ll provide a caption so that people can look up the original if they’re interested. (By mindlessly deleting the caption, I get the impression that people don’t give a shit about art.)

For we are all but friends of Death,
And know him as we would a mother,
So when we draw our final breath
His shadow is like any other.
